I love this book

I'm a professional musician and teacher. for 30 years. I love this book; it's a great change from the flexibility books that most players are very familiar with. Schlossberg, Irons, Colin, Bai Lin, are all great books, but if you are familiar with them, this will be a welcome change. It doesn't let you slip into autopilot ; the harmonic changes it puts you through do not permit you to go to sleep mentally. I will be using this with students as well, as the range is not excessive, but it's still a great workout. It's a great addition to the warmup. Plus, there is humor in the commentary that I find enjoyable. And I'm not the only one. Any book that has endorsements from Vincent DiMartino, Byron Stripling, Ray Mase, Charles Lazarus, Peter Bond, Joey Tartell, and Lew Soloff must be good; these are top players in Jazz and Classical music. Highly Recommended.

best flexibility book available.

Gotta add my voice to the chorus of praise for this great book. Before getting this book, I never would have imagined that I could find a lip slur book to be both entertaining and musically interesting, but that's just what it is! Instead of the typical harmonic dead end of staying in a single overtone series for each study, these clever exercises shift from one fingering to another to create witty and challenging lines that often evoke the harmonies of modern jazz. Frequent use of odd meters provide a rhythmic kick, and the whole thing is topped off by punning and satirical titles and written "instructions" that range from silly to laugh-out-loud funny. The book is fairly difficult. There's very little that would be accessible to young players, but advanced students and professionals will love it.

Thank you, Scott Belck!!

Scott’s lip slurs are very unique, in that each exercise is a set of patterns that any player may find useful in real-life setting in soloing. They each consist of a combination of fundamental horn lengths—we usually refer to these as “fingerings”—to combine variations of overtones in adjacent horn lengths to execute patterns of lip slurs. While these exercises each require some concentration to wrap your brain and fingers around, they are simultaneously quite challenging and fun. There is no real objective here, except to explore varied combinations of partials relative to the partials in one or more other overtone series.

Challenging - Fun - Funny

These Flexibilities have made their way into my daily routine. Very entertaining, forces the performer to think about where they are in the slur unlike a standard lip slur exercise. Belck's witty comments in the style section still make me laugh when I am working on them. Book is very cleanly arranged, and very legible. I am a trombone player: the book is in treble clef Bb, but is easy to sight-transpose to any brass instrument.

Practice with an attitude

A book by a great trumpet player with an interesting take on lip slurs - far from the Schlossberg, Colin studies. Interesting and fun to play.

If you want to laugh and lip slur then this is the book

Not another book with the same description on how to use. Humor is part of what make this book outstanding, don't get complaisant either, this has some serious slurs that require practice and concentration.

A Book that Will Focus Your Mind!

This book provides brass players with unique slurring exercises which require focus and invaluable ear training during the daily practice session. These exercises will challenge and interest brass players of all skill levels.

WOW!

Totally gets you into doing stuff you hate to practice.

You should buy 5 copies

A must buy for any horn player, beginner or advanced. I have never owned a method book with more wit and humor. As an added bonus, he even saw fit to make the exercises themselves pretty good.
