Taiwan fired the pilot to cause domestic Covid-19 case
EVA Airways fired the pilot who infused a 30-year-old woman with nCoV, prompting Taiwan to report its first domestic Covid-19 case in more than eight months.
The 253-day community zero-case sequence in Taiwan ended on December 22, after a local woman had been exposed to a CoV-positive New Zealand pilot.
The pilot was fined $ 10,600 for not "truthfully reporting" contact and operation with medical authorities when he knew he was infected with nCoV.
The New Zealand pilot did not wear a mask while working earlier this month, despite being reminded by a Taiwanese pilot.
Taiwan health agency head Chen Shih-chung on December 23 said 170 out of 173 people had been exposed to nCoV negative women, the remaining three were waiting for results.
Pilots arriving in Taiwan only have to undergo three days of isolation after each international trip, while the island requires passengers a two-week quarantine.
The infection in the community was a blow to the praised island for its response to the pandemic.
